Welcome to the Highlands Field Hockey Club (HFHC)
Together, Coaches Gina, Janelle, Jordan and I (Ali) are the head coaches of the Junior and Senior teams for the HFHC. We are excited to be your daughters’ coaches for the 2019 FH season. We are all former high school and college players – from Northern Highlands Regional High School and Pompton Lakes High School, as well as Montclair State University and The College of New Jersey. The Highlands Field Hockey Club program is rich in tradition and success, and our aim is to continue to build that legacy.
For the first time since the club was started, we have three fall teams and a waitlist! We are very excited to continue growing the game and look forward to a wonderful season. A few housekeeping items: we were able to secure field time to hold two practices before the start of the fall league. Tomorrow, Sunday, August 18 and next Sunday, August 25 from 6:30-7:45pm on the grass field (we may move to the turf if it is available) at Northern Highlands, we will hold practice for those who can make it.
Coaching is a professional privilege which allows us to educate young people through the game of field hockey. It is more than creating a well-established program or winning championships. As coaches, we get the opportunity to make an impact on young women’s lives. It is our responsibility to help our players to make good decisions on the field and mature decisions in all areas of their lives. We are committed to using our knowledge, abilities and resources to make each player on our teams successful. It is important to us to create an environment where the athletes are not afraid to push themselves and each other to work hard, and to work together to achieve a common goal. We win as a team and we lose as a team. We look out for our teammates, always! We believe that the lessons we learn throughout our sporting experience will carry over into our everyday lives. Team work, mutual respect, commitment, and hard work are all building blocks to good character and by achieving this, we will be successful!
Attendance and Practice: Please use the online RSVP system to mark your daughter’s attendance by the Wednesday before each game, or as soon as you know she will not make a game or practice. Punctuality is very important. If players are consistently late this could affect their playing time. Uniforms should be worn at every game. Mouth guards, goggles and shin guards are required at all games and practices. Remember to bring enough water as well. And lastly, make sure to send your daughters with the appropriate clothing, esp when the temps begin to drop – sweatshirts, under armour, sweatpants, rain jackets, etc.
Safety: HFHC players are expected to wear mouth guards, shin guards, and goggles for every practice and game. The game is played at high speed with a stick and a ball. Players are expected to pay attention at all times and to be aware of their stick and their teammates’ sticks at all times.
Work Ethic and Attitude: The coaches want only highly motivated athletes who desire to make themselves and the team the best that they can be! We expect nothing less than 100% effort and cooperation from every player on all teams.
Parent Concerns and Communication: We encourage the players to go to her coach if she is confused or concerned about her role on the team or her playing time in games. If there is still concern, the parent and the athlete are encouraged to make an appointment to speak to the coach. Parents are encouraged to contact the coach directly with concerns regarding your daughter’s health and/or safety.
More information about uniforms, practice and game schedules will be sent in an email to follow. We are all looking forward to a wonderful fall field hockey season with your daughters!!!
See those who can make it tomorrow for practice.
